Share on Facebook 2009-09-22: Barbarossa Beard Blog - Day 1 - The Pros and Cons
Day 1: September 17, 2009
Today is the first day of Beard Blog. I shaved last night, since I'm hanging out with a friend all evening, and she is a pretty girl. So I figure that's a good starting point. Plus it's roughly "mid-September", which has a nice ring to it, for when people ask.
My primary thoughts regarding the benefits of shaving are summarized in three main points:
1. That it shows that I put at least an iota of effort into trying to look acceptable for a social gathering
2. That it is cleaner, much cooler, and less hassle to be shaven, esp. with respect to doing sports, which I daresay I do quite often
3. I think I look like slightly less of a douchebag when I shave (which isn't saying much, mind you) although this is perhaps incorrect (see point d, below)
My primary thoughts regarding growing a beard are:
a) It hurts like a basterd and is quite annoying (they say this goes away, though I have yet to experience that section)
b) It is a lot less hassle. Never having to shave is sweet as hell.
c) I feel like a real man, not some metrosexual city boy with his moisturizers and tweezers.
d) People tell me "I like the beard!" way more often then they tell me "I like the face!"
So today is day one of my concerted beard-growing effort. When will it stop? Well, I have a date in mind, but it's so far off as to be a dream.
