Share on Facebook 2008-11-03: Fantastic Contraption

I should be sleeping, but I wanted to let you all know about a great new game called "Fantastic Contraption". This wonderful flash game will literally reduce your productivity to nearly zero. Well, actually, your productivity will be high, but you will not be producing that which your company is paying you to produce. Instead, you will be producing fantastic contraptions.

Here's what you do:

1. Go to http://fantasticcontraption.com/

2. Just start playing...

3. When you are ready to start sharing your sweet designs, you just get a user name (click "New User" on the left) and save your designs. Note that when you're signed in, it doesn't save your designs automatically. You need to save them one at a time! To retreive your designs, click on "My Designs" in the top menu.

Basically, this game rules. Wanna see some of the inventions a few friends have made? Check it out:

Wyvez: A sweet catapult: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3873348

Mitch: One of my failed contraptions: http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=3806450

I could show you some more, but I don't want to give away the answers to the levels (though, honestly, that's not the fun part, the fun part is coming up with the non-obvious solutions.)

Be warned though: this game is crazy fun.

Ok, now that you've been warned, we're going to have a Fantastic Contraption contest!

Everyone picks their top 3 designs, and submits the links (via email, to me.) Then everyone who submitted their designs will vote on everyone else's designs. The winner gets a free $10 sign-up to the full version of the game, so we can start building our own levels, so the fun never stops.

The contest rules are:

1. No glitches - Sometimes the game glitches, and pieces break, etc. No glitchy solutions allowed. Flukes are ok, and really sweet fluke shots might be worth points with the judges, who knows?

2. Any 3 solutions - Any levels, any solutions, even three of the same levels

3. November 9th at midnight submission deadline

The judging will operate as follows: Each submitter will first review all the designs, then go through and rate them on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being "super awesome holy cow", 5 being "That was grood." and 1 being "well, I guess you solved it..." Then everyone's score out of 10 will be tallied. Top score wins. If there are ties, then we'll have everyone go through the tied design sets and vote for the single best. Most votes wins! (And no, you can't vote on your own design.)

This is the best Youtube video I could come up with after searching for "Awesome": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb9cidk0Bfs - Awesome Guitar Tapping

Ok, I just watched a bunch of guitar lessons, then came across this one. Then I came across the best comment I've seen on you tube:

vuzzle: Shit, that's the ugliest guitar I've ever seen...

shwarg: You're the ugliest guitar I've ever seen.

Goddamn, quality comebacks like that just make life worth living. That shit is solid gold.

I'm out. Go forth, and start designing. Contest closes in 6 days!

Mitch out.

Wait, wait, wait a second. - Mitch, 2008-11-03, 23:31:45

I lied. This might be the best comment ever, for this video.

floaty32: anyone could play this, heard a solo like this a million times before!

That Paul Gilbert solo is ok ... more importantly Paul Gilbert is wearing the most awesome pair of pants ever created.
