Share on Facebook 2008-10-08: Australia Trip - Day 3 - The Ledge

Day 3... Friday, October 3rd, 2008

All morning (well, 2 hours of it, anyway) spent trying to get photos edited and online. Brendon's computer of hell doesn't quite help. Duncan and I were joking that I could edit photos faster using an abacus.

Anyway, right now I'm on the train. I used some google maps action to find out how to get out of the 'burbs and into the city. Despite wandering around for 20 km trying to find the entrance to the train station, it was generally easy. It is so hot. I must buy sandals. Someone just told me I'm on a train that goes directly where I want to go, so I'm laughin'. That, and the girl sitting next to me is crazy hot. Yay! Australia! More later...

K, it's later. I had lunch with Stu. That was my accomplishment for the day. We hung out around circular quay. I blended in with the other million tourists. I got some photos of tourist things. I even walked around "The Rocks". I even took a photo of the opera house. Quite fun. I guess. The best part was the Baskin Robbins ice cream.

From there I hopped on a bus and made my way to Sydney University. It's way weird to be back. Everything is familiar, but in a weird, other-lifetime sort of way. The campus is more ugly than I remember. What a shame. The old buildings are so nice. Oh well.

And now I find myself at the old climbing gym "The Ledge". A new couch, but otherwise nothing's changed, even the dudes behind the desk are still kickin' around. Which is good. Change is overrated.

This place mostly reminds me of my ex, though (If I can call her that??) so it's quite nostalgia inducing. You know what they say about nostalgia... It's the last refuge of the moron. Regardless, the cinnamon yogourt, however delicious it may be, can't help but make me miss the old days. Delicious, delicious old days...

So now I'm in a climbing gym. Two things make me want to climb: The cute girls taking introductory lessons, and the guys climbing, who aren't good and I would love to compete with. God. Have I ever climbed for the right reasons? haha. Probably not since about 1999. It's all I can do to not walk over and give those unfortunate dudes some beta... God. Being a beginner is horrible. K, I'm going to give this climbing thing a shot. More later...

Later...

After climbing about two problems, some other people showed up (Clare, Jette, Tom, Duncan) and eventually we went for Sushi. I shouldn't say we went for sushi, actually, because this japanese restaurant actually didn't have any sushi. Someone actually tried to argue with me that there were only two kinds of sushi, Salmon and tuna, because that's all this weak-assed restaurant served. I assured him that wasn't the case, but he was incredibly hard to convince. Anyway, their menu was mostly boxes of terriaky (Sp?) chicken, which most people ordered. These people need to come to Vancouver for some real sushi, stat.

Oh, I forgot one part: Tom's shitty car broke down. Well, it wouldn't start. He was having trouble with the fuel pump... After taking tons of photos and laughing at him trying to get it started (we helped to push the car around. That was our contribution.) Duncan and I walked to the sushi place. It was a nice night for a walk, anyway (it was like 100 degrees out.)

After "sushi" we went for some beer, but everyone (well, Brendon and I) were exhausted so we jetted pretty quickly. What can I say? I'm a go-to-bed-early kind of guy.
